In 1922, Arthur Knapp won the second Sears Cup Races for the Junior Championship in Marblehead. In 1930, he finish second in Class-B in the Bermuda race then went on to win the Star Worlds that same year. Knapp was a member of Harold S. Vanderbilt's afterguard aboard the 1937 America's Cup Defender 'Ranger. ' In 1958 Knapp was the skipper of 'Weatherly' in the America's Cup trials. His racing record and contributions to yachting earned him the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Award of the United States Yacht Racing Union. In 1982, together with Edward du Moulin, he founded the Knickerbocker Cup, the premier match racing event in the East, and one of the five Brut Grand Prix Events.
